Sri Kalahasti Rahu-ketu Pooja:

Srikalahasti temple is a very famous Shiva temple located in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is one of the most well known temples of South India. Vayu is incarnated as a Lord Shiva and Worshipped as Kalahastheeswara. This can be seen from the other miraculous feature of Srikalahasti Temple – the Vayu-linga. In the temple there is lamp which a wavering flame throughout day and night without any traces of wind to facilitate its flickering. This indicates the presence of Lord Vayu. The Shiva linga is of white colour and is said to be self-manifested- Swayambhu. This temple is also considered as “Dakshina Kasi and Rahu-ketu-Kshetra”.

SriKalahasti Temple is also linked with Rahu and Ketu, two of the nine important celestial bodies of Indian astrological system. Many pilgrims visit here to offer their prayers to Rahu and Ketu, considered be immensely powerful.

Rahu Ketu Pooja is the popular ritual observed at Sri Kalahasti Temple to nullify the effect of Rahu Dosha, Ketu Dosha, Sarpa Dosha, Kalasarpa Dosha,Naga Dosha, Sarpa Hatya Dosha, etc

It is to note that Rahu Ketu Pooja is an ideal remedy for those who are facing the problems in getting married, in begetting children, marital problems,family issues, health, etc. Those who are struggling in professional field i.e, in job, career and higher education can also perform this pooja to get rid of all ill-effects.

The best days for Rahu Ketu Pooja At Sri Kalahasti Temple or any other Temple is:

Chaturthi(Fourth day of a Paksha in Hindu month), Panchami(Fifth day), Sashti(sixth day), Purnima(Full Moon), Surya Grahanam(Solar Eclipse), Chandra Grahanam(Lunar Eclipse), any Tuesday and any Ashesha Nakshatra day.

Rahu-ketu Sarpa Dosha Nivarana pooja will be performed on all days in a year, the pooja is performed from 6:00am to 7:00pm except on the day of Maha Shivaratri. It is believed that the most important days to perform Rahu-ketu pooja are Amavasya day in a calendar month and sunday Amavasya.

In Sri Kalahaasti Rahu-ketu pooja will be performed during Rahu Kalam Timings, Devotee should plan accordingly so that he will available duing Rahu Kalam time at the temple. Sri Kalahasti Rahu Ketu Pooja will be performed in batches at Mandapam and in Halls, for which Entry and Exit Doors will be different as Devotee after completing Pooja should leave for Lord Shiva Darshan inside Temple.

For Rahu-ketu pooja at Sri Kalahasti Temple,piligrim is not required to carry any pooja material, it will be provided at the ticket counter after purchasing ticket. Rahu-ketu pooja ticket includes pooja material so additional materials not required.

Rahu-ketu Performing details:

For Rahu-ketu pooja you will be given items such as two small silver idols of Rahu and Ketu snakes form, Kumkum(Vermilion), two types of horse-grams,betel nuts and leaves,coconuts,flowers etc.

The Temple priest will announce some instructions through a microphone in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam about how to perform the pooja to Rahu and Ketu idols on your own. It takes 45mins for a batch to finish the Rahu-ketu pooja.

After finishing the Rahu-ketu pooja, you are allowed free to go to have the darshan will be around 20 to 30 minutes as per the crowd. Devotees throng into the temple more on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

Procedure to be followed for Rahu Ketu Pooja:

  • A day before pooja, one should sleep on floor (Not Mandatory)
  • Next day morning after taking bath, plan to reach Temple little early and perform abhishekam with Milk ( 1 liter) to the Idols at Rudra Padam ( which is 100ft from Pathala Ganapathi Temple) and then do 3 Pradakshinam to the Idols. Just sprinkle milk on the idols. Rudra Padam is the place where they used to perform Rahu Ketu Kala Sarpa Dosh pooja in olden days.
  • After Abhishekam, please perform Rahu Ketu Kala Sarpa Dosha Pooja.
  • After pooja, please donate 2 -3 meal packets to the poor.
  • Now you are good to leave home. After reaching hotel. please take bath. No need to remove or throw clothes.
